Inverse - Square Law Experiment in Space
نویسنده
چکیده
After presenting a very brief outline of this flight program, this paper will dwell in more detail on the key challenges that must be met for successful flight. These include the comparison of the frequency of the PARCS cesium clock with Earth-bound cesium clocks using the GPS carrier-phase method, the implementation of the phase modulation scheme needed to minimize the impact of space-station vibrations on the cesium clock, the evaluation of the cesium spin-exchange frequency shift, the design of shutters for the cesium beam, and the acquisition of tracking and acceleration data essential to measurement of the relativistic frequency shift and transfer of the realization of the second to Earth. Among advances to be reported in this paper are the development of the new concept of phase modulation and detailed analysis of the limitations of the carrier-phase frequency-comparison system. Preliminary designs for several key components of the flight package will be presented and discussed. PARCS successfully completed its Science Concept Review in January 1999 and its Requirements Design Review in December 2000, and is now moving toward its Preliminary Design Review.

Behavior correction of the inverse square law in irradiation room for volumetric source and detector
The inverse-square law is used to calculate the radiation flux at difference distances from the source. This law is applied for point source and point detector in vacuum. This research aims to study the point behavior of volumetric source and detector by undertaking required corrections on inverse-square law through the elimination of scattered neutrons contribution. The measurements have been ...
متن کاملTests of the Gravitational Inverse-square Law
We review recent experimental tests of the gravitational inverse-square law and the wide variety of theoretical considerations that suggest the law may break down in experimentally accessible regions.
متن کاملExperimental tests of Coulomb’s Law and the photon rest mass
Coulomb’s Law is a fundamental principle describing the electric force between isolated charges, and represents the first quantitative law achieved in electromagnetism. The degree of confidence with which the law is experimentally known to hold was investigated after the law was put forth by Coulomb in 1785. The electrodynamics for massive particles suggests that a photon with a finite rest mas...
متن کاملInverse square law of gravitation in (2+1)-dimensional space-time as a consequence of Casimir energy
The gravitational effect of vacuum polarization in space exterior to a particle in (2+1)-dimensional Einstein theory is investigated. In the weak field limit this gravitational field corresponds to an inverse square law of gravitational attraction, even though the gravitational mass of the quantum vacuum is negative. The paradox is resolved by considering a particle of finite extension and taki...
متن کاملProgress on a New Experimental Test of the Gravitational Inverse-square Law
Progress is reported from an oscillating torsion-pendulum experiment searching for gravitational inverse square law violation (ISLV) between macroscopic bodies with a separation of order 10 cm. An important design feature is the special mass configurations of both the pendulum and gravitational source. These provide high sensitivity to the horizontal derivative of the Laplacian of the gravitati...
متن کاملExploring Fifth Force Interactions with 18th Century Technology
Many theories which unify gravity with the other known forces of nature predict the existence of an intermediate-range “fifth force” similar to gravity. Such a force could be manifest as a deviation from the gravitational inverse-square law. Currently, at distances near 10m, the inverse-square law is known to be correct to about one part per thousand. I present the design of an experiment that ...
